"If anything happens to you I will never forgive myself." Renee said with her head low.

Her and Onew were now sitting in her apartment. Jonghyun, Minho, Key and Taemin had left after things got a bit calmer. Now they were alone. She sat at the far end of the couch, a bit away from Onew. She felt guilty for what almost happened just about an hour ago. Just the thought that Daesuk could hurt Onew was terrifying to her, because she knew what he was capable of, better than anyone.


"He's dangerous Onew. When you pushed him... I feared he would fight back. Please don't do that again." she said.

"I couldn't let him come near you. Not when I'm there." Onew replied and moved closer to her.

"Yes. But I don't ever want you to get hurt..." she said, worry and fear written all over her face.

"I won't... I'll be ok..." he replied caressing her cheek and giving her his kind smile. Renee smiled back but she still had this fear. Daesuk wouldn't quit. She didn't know when he would be back but she was sure he would. And he did.



The next morning he came back, knocking on her door. She didn't open because Onew took her back to his apartment the night before. After quite some hour Daesuk finally gave up and left. Same happened the next day around evening. He was there, kicking and punching. Calling out her name. Thankfully Onew was there both times so they both remained as calm as possible and watched him give up and walk away cussing.

The second time Renee looked out in the hallway from the door's eye. Daesuk started walking away from her door but stopped and shot a look at Onew's. He looked straight into her eyes, even though he didn't know. His stare made her blood freeze. But right at that moment Onew reached for her waist and slowly brought her back into the living room. The next couple of days went by calmly since there was no sign of him. No sign of him up until that night.


It was Onew's day off. They were both at home. Renee was sitting on the couch watching tv. She saw Onew grabbing the keys and walking towards the door. It was raining, dark outside.


"Hey... where are you going?" Renee asked smiling.

"We made a list last night remember?" he replied. "I'll just go to the grocery store while it's still open. We need the ingredients if we're going to make that cake." he said, smiling back.

"Yeah but it's raining..." she said and looked out the window. "Wait, I'll get you an umbrella." she said, stood up and went towards the room.


Onew smiled and grabbed the door handle. As Renee was coming back with an umbrella Onew opened the door. In an instant he felt a sharp pain on his face. His sight went white for a second and his head was struggling to realize what had happened. The hit was so sudden it made him take a few steps back finally threw him on the ground.


"Oh my God Onew!" Renee yelled. The umbrella fell on the ground and she run towards him.

"You deserved that you piece of shit." a man growled over him.

It was Daesuk. Drunk, messy looking, holding a bottle of alcohol in his hand. He rushed to kick Onew's stomach once, before he was stopped by Renee. She pushed him away with all her force and got on her knees next to Onew. She barely managed to ask him if he was okay. Daesuk took a grip of her hair.

"You're coming with me." he said.

Renee yelped in pain. "No! Let me go!" she yelled. Onew moved quickly ignoring the pain in his abdomen. He got on his feet.

"Let her go!" he yelled right before his fist made his way onto Daesuk's face.


He hit the taller man making him lose his balance. He let go of Renee who run away from him and looked for shelter behind Onew. Onew pushed her back towards the living room as he saw Daesuk walking towards him. The older man moved impressively quickly for the kind of drunk situation he was in.

He swung the bottle of alcohol towards Onew's head once and then once again. The younger dodged the hit both times. The third time Daesuk swung that bottle Onew ducked. The bottle hit the wall breaking into pieces, alcohol pouring on the floor. But the bottle's neck was still in Daesuk's hand, sharp edges now formed from the break.

Renee gasped. "Daesuk no!" she yelled as Daesuk moved forward towards Onew.

"Let's see if killing your knight will make you decide." he replied.

"No!" she yelled again. "Daesuk don't!"

"Nobody is going to die today." Onew said. "Put that down."


Daesuk just smirked and with fast moves tried to attack Onew who managed to miss the hits. Renee made her way to her cellphone. With her hands shaking she tried to dial the emergency number. As soon as she pressed the first digit Daesuk yelled at her.

"Who are you calling babe?" he asked. Renee froze with the cellphone in her hands.

"If you dial one more number I will kill him!" he yelled and attacked Onew once more.

This time he actually managed to graze Onew's arm, even though the other tried to avoid the hit like he did before. The cut made Onew yelp. Renee gasped. With eyes now teary she put down her cellphone and moved towards Onew. She went past him and pushed him behind her. He was slightly bleeding.


"Daesuk put that down..." she said calmly. "It's okay. I will come with you... I promise." she said.

"No!" Onew screamed from behind her.

"Just put that down before you hurt someone else..." she continued extending her arms his way.

Daesuk looked straight back at her. She nodded, trying to reassure him it would all be okay. He slowly started lowering the sharp piece of glass he was holding. Renee took it away from his hands and threw it on the floor. The moment Renee walked towards him and was about to take his hand Onew attacked from behind her.

His fist found Daesuk's face making him walk backwards and outside the apartment. He punched him once again. The older man's body stuck to the wall in that hallway. He slowly started sliding down to the floor. When he finally hit the floor he was just lying there, drunk and pathetic, unable to stand up again. A furious Onew was ready to hit him once more. And he would have if he wasn't stopped by Renee.

She wrapped her arms around his chest and stopped him.

"Onew no!" she said. "It's not worth it! Please!"

And she was right. Onew, with his fist in mid air, shot a look at Daesuk. That guy had done so much harm to her but he looked worthless and pitiful, lying on the hallway floor. He wasn't dangerous any more, he needed help. Renee kept holding onto Onew until he calmed down. Then she left for a second and then came back. She dialed those numbers on her cellphone.

"119 what's your emergency?"



The police and an ambulance arrived a few minutes later. Daesuk had almost passed out on the hallway. Paramedics took care of Onew's arm. He didn't lose much blood since it was a superficial cut. Police officers picked Daesuk off that floor and lead him out of the building. He could barely walk. Renee and Onew, holding each other's hand, followed another police officer out of the building. He took their statements about the incident.

Renee had called Daesuk's brother. He got there running, just in time to see his drunk brother be taken away by the police. He didn't walk close to Renee, he was too ashamed. But she saw him and nodded. He just nodded back.
As Daesuk was put into the police car he turned around and said the last words Renee would ever hear from him.

"Renee..." he said. She looked straight back at him. "I'm sorry..." he mumbled as an officer was pushing his head inside the vehicle.

The car left and Onew pulled a teary eyed Renee into a hug. He kissed her forehead as she was caressing his back. And as that car left so did Seunghyun, Daesuk's brother. He watched from afar as Renee was hugging Onew. And as he started walking away it was like somehow he knew, that's where she belonged.


"That would be all young man." the police officer said. "Thank you for your cooperation. You can now be sure, that man will not hurt you again." he added now turning to Renee. "Have a good night." he said and with that he left.

"Come on..." Onew said. He looked right into Renee's eyes, caressed her face and smiled at her. "Lets go home..."


It was over. The pain, the nightmares, the fear. It was all over.
